Introduction

Changing a font is both easy and safe, so it is a good hack for the first time modder.

Before you start...

  1. Right click on your desktop.
  2. Click Properties.
  3. Go to the Appearance tab.
  4. Then click Effects.

  5. Make sure the smoothing method is set to Standard!

How To Change a Font

Getting Started

Switch to the Fonts tab on iPodWizard.

Font Indexes

To change the main font, set the index number to the following:
1G/2G - 15
3G - 13
4G - 28
Photo/Color - 37*
1G/2G Mini - 31
Nano - 29 (30 as Firmware 14.5.1 (2006-01-10))
5G - OTF Fonts, Index 4(Index 1 - ver 1.2/1.2.1) (More: 5G section)

  • - On firmware 11.4x, change the index to 38. Don't know about firmware 5.4x.

Making Your Own Font

  1. Now, click the Make Font button on the right.

  2. Here you can select your font, feel free to use any option you want but keep the font size around 10 (experiment to see which size looks the best on the iPod)

Loading a Ready Made Font

  1. Click the Load Bitmap button and load the font bmp file.
  2. Click the Load Metrics button and load the font ifm file.

If all went well your font should appear like this:

You can now perform more hacks or install your new font!



5G Font Changing

**Note: Must have iPW version 1.2 or higher to edit 5G fonts**
Note 2: This process can be done by editing directly from iPod, just upload the firmware from iPod by using the drop-down menu.

Getting Started


  1. Switch to the Fonts tab on iPodWizard.

  2. To change the main font, click on the "OTF Font" button.

  3. Click on the Index Drop-Down Menu, and select #4 (use #1 for version 1.2 to 1.2.1).

Making Your Own Font


  1. Now, click the Make Font button on the right.

  2. Here you can select your font, feel free to use any option you want but keep the font size around 10 to 12(experiment to see which size looks the best on the iPod)

Loading a Ready Made Font


  1. Click the Load Bitmap button and load the font bmp file.

If all went well your font should appear like this:

Change Font Color iPod Video 5G/5.5G


1) Open up iPodWizard. Now on the top left corner of iPodWizard you should be able to select what Edit Mode you want. Choose iPod. Click Load iPod Firmware. Your iPod's firmware should be loading. Once loaded, you want to go to the Fonts tab.

2)What you want to do is choose Index 18. Once you're there, you can load your 1-Bit font or use @Gulim by hitting the Make Font Button and choosing that font.

3) Now go to the Layout tab and choose Font Types for the Resource type.

4)Load the resources you downloaded by hitting Load All and loading the folder of resources, or load theme one by one with the Load Resource button. After that click on the Write To iPod button. It should succesfully write to your iPod and you should now have maroon/red colored font. Now some of you may want to change that so load your iPod back on iPodWizard.

Once the iPod's firmware is loaded, go back to the Layout tab and choose Font Type as the Resource Type again. This time you will be searching for Resources 24222; 24223; 24224; 24225. On every single one of those change the 77 00 00 to whatever color you want.Once you change all those resources to your desired color, just hit the Write to iPod and your set.
